Women's Council of the Rochester Business Alliance believes that young women with promise today will become tomorrow's leaders.

Modeled after the prestigious ATHENA Award, the Young Women of Distinction Award was introduced by the Women's Council in 2000. This award aspires to nurture Rochester's next generation of women leaders, and in do so, enable companies and organizations within our community to grow and prosper.

The Young Women of Distinction Award recognizes high school seniors in the greater Rochester area who demonstrate excellence in

  • Academics
  • Community Service
  • Leadership

Recipients receive a cash scholarship and a paid internship with a local company. All nominees are eligible to apply for paid internships at a local company.

The Women’s Council would like to expand the program to include larger scholarships, to reach more young women and to add to the importance and prestige of the Award. Assistance in funding these scholarships, the recognition ceremonies and to reach more young women in the community is needed.

As women have worked over the last fifty years to become an integral part of the business and political community in the United States, it has been very important to recognize and inspire young women. As Women’s Council extends its reach to these young women through ongoing mentor relationships, the Council encourages them to return to our community after college and make a difference in the business sector.
